According to BWF laws, knowing the height of the badminton net is critical. So, how high should a badminton net be?
Badminton is a racquet and shuttlecock sport that dates back to the nineteenth century. It requires at least two or four players to use racquets to hit the shuttlecock across the net. The sport is enjoyable for both children and adults.
The top corner of each side of the net must be 5 feet and 1 inch off the ground for badminton net height. Therefore, the average height of a badminton net should be 5 feet 1in (1.55m) at the ends and drop to 5 feet (1.52m) in the center.
The badminton net is positioned in the center of the badminton square which is made out of components of cement, polyester, and wood. The height of the badminton net is an important factor in this sport. Before playing this game, it is vital to understand how high badminton nets should be.
After conducting research and speaking with various badminton professionals, we have put together this guide to help you learn more about the average height of a badminton net.
How High Should Badminton Net Be?
The net is 760mm deep and 6.1m wide at a minimum. For doubles, the top of the net from the court surface is 1.524m in the center and 1.55m above the sidelines. Both the singles and doubles games are played on a regular badminton court. The court is divided into two halves, each measuring 6.7m (22 feet), by a badminton netting that rises to 5 feet 1in (1.55m) at the ends and drops to 5 feet (1.52m) in the center. In addition, there must be no spaces between the net's ends and the posts.
Even when a singles match is played, the net posts are placed over the doubles sidelines. Professional players benefit from the standard dimensions of the net since it allows them to develop their skills.
The majority of outstanding badminton players are not particularly tall. Many international champions are also only slightly taller than usual. As a result, great badminton skills do not require a great height.
However, we believe that height does benefit badminton to some extent, in the following ways:
- The most obvious benefit of good height is that it aids in rapidly covering the entire court. This can come in handy, especially while playing singles.
- Since you can strike the shuttle at a higher elevation with a good height, you can hit steeper smashes. The ability to place the doubles service more precisely and closer to the service line might be aided by a decent height.
According to IBF rules, a net with the proper size must be put in the right location on the court for badminton matches or tournaments to be played. Therefore, you should always aim to get a waterproof and sturdy badminton net for your game!
Why is the height of the badminton net so high?
The goal of a five-foot-one net is to make the game more challenging; but, a badminton shuttle would simply lob on every stroke if the net is too high, making the game dull. The badminton net is essential in this game because it is played across the net.
